It all comes down to making choices I guess. With the new job and all I have worked 5 shifts and all of them started at different times and at 4 different locations. It's really hard to stick to a schedule when you can't make one. All becomes normal next week and I can start to plan.

It's very difficult to wrap your head around the fact that you have to eat more to lose weight. The only thing I had success with previously was Atkins, and watching how much you ate was of course a very important aspect of it. With this new way of eating, I understand that I have to keep the furnace fueled or it will slow down and fight me every step of the way. Breakfast is now a good cereal, oatmeal if I have time; with fruit and a protein shake. I have a snack, a fairly big lunch with fish, or chicken and rice or potatoes or a wrap, another snack in the afternoon and a dinner of chicken or meat, potato or rice and a veggie. Another protein drink around 8 or so. I still have a glass of wine, one a night, that's it. This is still way more than I usually ate, but for far better food. I haven't touched a french fry since Jan 3rd and though I still stop at Mickey D's every morning for my coffee and paper, I have had no fast food this year. The two times I got stuck without planning, I stopped and bought sushi, which seems to be a wise choice.
Cath and Dallon have incorporated some weight training for both Adele and I. (She's doing great by the way). Light weights aimed at increasing our metabolism and adding definition rather than bulk. I definitely do not need more bulk. A little stretching, some forms of curls and squats and lunges and some cool down stretches, seems to work.

Learning to run like a deere (John)

Doesn't He Look Tough!! Elvis on our walk, scaring away the coyotes.

Starting Weight 294.3
Current Weight 281
Total Loss 13.2 lbs
Weight to go 84 lbs
Distance Traveled 60 k

Well, I've been walking for 5 weeks now and if I were to head east I am now in the lovely village of Yarrow, on the way to Cultus Lake. After Sumas Lake was drained in the early part of last century, Yarrow was settled by the Mennonites. There-your history lesson for the week.

Well, my goal as written last week was no beer and 20k walking. I am going to classify myself as successful because I didn't have any beer and though I only travelled 14.5 k, I actually took up jogging. For those of you who know the 4.5k trail that I take, I started by walking to the start, which is 1/2k from my house. This gets the blood flowing. I then jog for 1 minute, walk for 2, jog for 1 etc until I get to the 1.3k mark on the path. I then walk back the last 2.5k or so. It may not seem like much to you but let me tell you: jogging with this much weight is sure noticeable on the knees. I don't particularly get winded, but the knees need the break every now and then.

I'm actually  thinking that I might be ready for the Grouse Grind (Dallon, are you up for it?) when spring arrives. I know 6 year olds can do it but they don't weigh 300lbs. Maybe even a 5k run. I'm going to do a little more homework on how to train for one. I'll let you know how I make out

It Hurts!

Nobody told me that if you only rollerblade every 8 or 9 years you don't get any better. Who'd a thunkit!
Dallon took me out yesterday to check my prowess on the old wheels. Apparantly I'm not a lock to make the Canucks. For someone with such big legs, they sure felt weak. Though I never actually fell down, there were a couple of times that it was close. Ten minutes passing a hockey ball around and a twenty minute skate on the backroads of Derby Reach and my pins felt like jello. Sure built up a sweat though. I'm going to try and incorporate this new hobby into my regime. I can hardly wait for spring, I can get back on the golf course and pretend that it's excercise. It is about a 9 or 10 k walk, it's just it takes 5 hours to do it and it's ended with an ice cold beer!
Also, I had my first protien shake. I used it as a substitute for breakfast. It certainly makes it easier and they are surprisingly tasty. Just add milk (1%) and ice cubes and a banana and whip it up in the Magic Bullet and away we go. I didn't feel hungry either. I think I'll get in this habit, it's easier than an omelette when it comes to getting my protien.
